Job Description

We are seeking a Taxonomist / Metadata Specialist to serve as the lead subject matter expert for standardizing and governing metadata across HR content platforms and the core HR management system. This role plays a critical part in establishing a trusted, consistent data foundation that enables AI‑driven search, discovery, and intelligent HR experiences. This is a hands‑on, execution‑focused role suited for a practitioner who can balance theory with delivery. You will design, implement, and operationalize metadata and taxonomy standards in a developing or greenfield environment, delivering production‑ready outcomes that improve content findability, reuse, and AI performance.

Job Responsibility

  • Analyze existing metadata structures across HR systems and content platforms to identify gaps, overlaps, and inconsistencies
  • Define and implement an enterprise‑ready metadata, taxonomy, and ontology strategy tailored to HR and AI use cases
  • Develop and operationalize a sustainable metadata framework that supports AI‑driven search, retrieval, and future agentic experiences
  • Establish metadata standards, governance processes, approval workflows, and operational rules to maintain integrity over time
  • Partner with HR subject‑matter experts, content strategists, technology teams, and business stakeholders to align on metadata design
  • Facilitate and/or lead co‑creation workshops to gather input, validate taxonomy models, and drive stakeholder adoption
  • Consult with technology teams to ensure metadata aligns with AI infrastructure and platform capabilities
  • Drive education, documentation, and best practices for tagging and metadata usage in partnership with change management teams
  • Audit real content, search logs, and consumption data to continuously refine taxonomy and metadata models
  • Serve as a single‑practitioner metadata and taxonomy lead, setting standards, templates, and repeatable processes

Requirements

  • Hands‑on experience developing and implementing taxonomies and metadata across enterprise platforms to improve search, reuse, and AI experiences
  • Experience designing and operationalizing metadata governance, including standards, templates, workflows, and quality rules
  • Strong stakeholder facilitation skills, with the ability to reconcile competing mental models into a shared framework
  • Ability to work independently in a less‑mature or greenfield environment and deliver production‑ready outcomes
  • Bachelor’s degree in information science, library science, semantics, ontology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 2+ years of professional experience in taxonomy, metadata, ontology, or related disciplines
  • Demonstrated experience supporting AI‑enabled or search‑driven experiences using structured metadata
  • Hands‑on experience implementing metadata standards within CMS and/or enterprise search platforms
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to influence without authority

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with knowledge graphs, graph databases, and semantic technologies
  • Experience with metadata governance tools and platforms (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, Atlan)
  • Understanding of data management fundamentals such as cataloging, lineage, and classification
  • Experience using analytics (search logs, content audits, usage data) to optimize metadata models
  • Exposure to enterprise HR systems, content management platforms, and search technologies
