We are looking for a meticulous and proactive Tax Staff Accountant to join our team in New York, New York. In this role, you will contribute to tax compliance and fixed asset accounting processes, ensuring accuracy and adherence to relevant standards. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Job Responsibility:
Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset subledger to the general ledger, ensuring accurate asset capitalization, depreciation, and classification according to company policies and accounting standards
Set up new fixed assets in the accounting system, assigning appropriate depreciation methods, useful lives, and asset categories while managing supporting documentation
Handle fixed asset transfers, disposals, retirements, or write-offs, recording any resulting gains or losses accurately
Create and manage detailed fixed asset roll-forward schedules in Excel to support tax filings, audits, and internal reporting requirements
Prepare and coordinate accurate filings across jurisdictions by gathering essential asset and location data and collaborating with internal teams
Register, update, and oversee state and local tax accounts, responding to notices and correspondence from tax authorities as needed
Assist in the preparation and submission of various state and local business tax filings, ensuring compliance and timeliness
Manage exemption certificates for vendors and customers, tracking expiration dates and maintaining up-to-date documentation
File tax returns electronically or by mail, maintaining organized digital records for audit purposes and future reference
Provide required documentation and schedules for auditors or tax authorities during reviews or examinations, supporting compliance initiatives
Requirements:
1–3 years of experience in tax or accounting roles
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a closely related field is preferred
Knowledge of fixed asset accounting and experience with tax filings
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel with strong attention to detail
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines effectively
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Familiarity with corporate income tax and sales/use tax processes
Experience handling personal property tax and fixed asset accounting
