A well-established, financially stable insurance organization is seeking a Tax Specialist to support federal, state, and local tax accounting and compliance activities. This role focuses on income tax provisions, filings, and audit support for insurance and non-insurance entities, operating within both GAAP and statutory frameworks. The position partners closely with accounting, audit, and finance teams and operates in a hybrid work environment. All duties are performed in compliance with applicable legal, regulatory, and internal control requirements.
Job Responsibility:
Prepare and assist with the review of federal and state income tax provisions, including current and deferred taxes, provision-to-return reconciliations, and intercompany settlements
Support quarterly and annual financial statement disclosures under GAAP and statutory reporting
Prepare and/or review federal and state income tax filings, estimated payments, and extensions
Assist with tax audits, including gathering documentation and coordinating support for external auditors
Perform tax research and analysis related to federal, state, and local matters
Prepare or review select state and local tax compliance filings (returns, estimates, extensions)
Support internal controls and SOX-related tax processes, including documentation and testing
Identify opportunities to streamline and automate tax processes and workpapers
Assist with compliance and audit support related to employee benefit and welfare plan filings (as applicable)
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field preferred
3-5 years of relevant tax or tax accounting experience
Experience within insurance, financial services, or complex multi-entity environments is a plus
CPA and/or Master's in Taxation (preferred, not required)
Strong understanding of income tax accounting (current and deferred)
Familiarity with GAAP and statutory reporting
High attention to detail with strong analytical and organizational skills
Ability to work independently while collaborating cross-functionally
Proficiency with tax and accounting systems and Excel
Nice to have:
Experience within insurance, financial services, or complex multi-entity environments
CPA and/or Master's in Taxation
