As a Tax Senior/Tax Lead at Verkada, you will be a critical member of our Finance team, taking the ownership of both direct and indirect tax functions. You will bridge the gap between complex hardware supply chains and global cloud-software revenue, ensuring compliance while driving tax optimization strategies as we scale toward an IPO. This is a high-impact role requiring a bias towards action and the technical grit to manage everything from daily indirect tax matters to complex US and international income tax provisions. The role will be directly reporting to the Director, Tax & Treasury.
Job Responsibility:
Lead the detailed review of the quarterly and annual global income tax provision (ASC 740) prepared by third-party consultants
Oversee the preparation and filing of federal, state, and international corporate income tax returns with third-party consultants
Research and identity opportunities for tax incentives/credits available for the Company
Manage US sales and use tax compliance, including the in-house filings for monthly and quarterly sales and use tax returns in the US
Oversee global VAT/GST and statistical reporting requirements for international entities, ensuring accurate filings in jurisdictions like EMEA and APAC with third-party consultants
Manage the in-house process to monitor and file property tax returns and other miscellaneous tax returns filing process
Coordinate and lead responses to federal, state, and international tax audits and inquiries
Drive the implementation of tax technology and automation solutions to streamline manual workflows and mitigate risk
Work with other cross-function teams on tax planning and provide tax advice to relevant stakeholders in the Company
Requirements:
3–5+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting (Big 4 preferred) or a high-growth startup environment
BS in Accounting or Finance is required
CPA or Masters in Taxation (MST) is preferred
Expertise in ASC 740 and income tax
US multi-state taxation, and international VAT/GST are a plus
Attention to detail and strong strategic instincts
A growth mindset and comfort with ambiguity
Excellent communication and partnership skills
A team player with a low “ego to smarts ratio”
Must be willing and able to work onsite five days per week in San Mateo, California
You must be independently authorized to work in the U.S.
Nice to have:
US multi-state taxation, and international VAT/GST are a plus
CPA or Masters in Taxation (MST) is preferred
