We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Tax Resolution Specialist to join our team in a hybrid role. The successful candidate will lead our efforts in addressing IRS and state tax notices, resolving disputes, and providing expert guidance on complex tax issues. This is an exciting opportunity to be the first to fill this position, helping to establish and grow our firm’s tax resolution services. Job Responsibility:

  • Review and respond to IRS and state tax notices
  • Develop strategies for resolving tax disputes, including negotiating payment plans, offers in compromise, and penalty abatements
  • Conduct in-depth research using resources such as IRS publications, tax code, and court rulings
  • Analyze and interpret complex tax laws and regulations
  • Represent clients during tax audits and appeals
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure comprehensive client service
  • Complete interest or penalty calculations
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of federal and state tax laws and regulations

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in tax resolution or controversy
  • Knowledge of the IRS collection process and common tax issues faced by individuals and businesses
  • Familiarity with IRS e-Services and other relevant online tax systems
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills

Nice to have:

  • CPA or EA designation preferred
  • Certified Tax Resolution Specialist (CTRS), a plus
  • IRS, Treasury, Big 4 / Large accounting firm experience, a plus
  • Proficiency in using tax preparation and resolution software, a plus
