We are looking for an experienced Tax Preparer to join our team on a contract basis in Los Altos, California. In this role, you will be responsible for managing individual tax returns and ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Job Responsibility:
Accurately input tax documents and client information into Lacerte tax software
Prepare individual tax returns (1040s) and, depending on expertise, some trust returns
Conduct initial reviews of tax files before finalizing them under the guidance of leadership
Organize and document all tax filings to ensure timely submission and compliance
Communicate with clients to address missing information as necessary, primarily through remote interactions
Safeguard sensitive financial data by maintaining strict confidentiality
Work efficiently within a paperless system to manage tax files and related documentation
Requirements:
Active Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN)
Current CPA or EA certification (Certified Public Accountant or Enrolled Agent)
Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in tax preparation, with a specialization in individual returns
Proficiency in Lacerte tax software and strong computer skills
Advanced knowledge of Excel and Word, with the ability to work in a paperless environment
Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting
Nice to have:
Familiarity with trust return preparation is preferred but not mandatory
