We are looking for an experienced Tax Manager to join a respected public accounting firm in Oakland, California. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with firm leadership on a diverse portfolio of tax matters, combining technical review responsibilities with strategic client advisory support. Job Responsibility
Direct and review complex tax engagements for individuals, partnerships, corporations, and trust or estate clients, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery
Advise clients on tax planning opportunities, technical questions, and practical strategies that support both compliance and broader financial objectives
Research federal and state tax matters, evaluate risks, and translate findings into clear recommendations for clients and internal stakeholders
Manage examinations and inquiries from taxing authorities, coordinating responses and guiding matters through resolution
Oversee multiple client assignments at once, balancing deadlines, staffing, and quality expectations in a fast-moving public accounting setting
Provide leadership to tax team members by reviewing work, offering coaching, and supporting their ongoing technical development
Partner with firm leadership on client service plans, engagement strategy, and initiatives that strengthen the tax practice
Maintain strong client relationships through responsive communication, sound judgment, and consistent delivery of high-quality work
Requirements
At least 7 years of tax experience within public accounting
CPA license or Enrolled Agent credential preferred
Strong background preparing and reviewing individual, trust and estate, partnership, S corporation, and C corporation tax matters
Experience working with high-net-worth individuals and closely held businesses
Exposure to real estate clients is strongly preferred
Proficiency with CCH Axcess Tax and Engagement or closely related CCH tax software
Effective client-facing communication skills and the ability to explain complex tax concepts clearly
Comfortable succeeding in a lean, high-performance team environment with minimal day-to-day oversight
