The tax manager will join our growing team of tax professionals located at our HQ in San Jose, CA. The tax manager will be contributing to all areas of tax, including compliance and planning and will report to the tax director. We are seeking a colleague who enjoys working collaboratively in a collegial team environment within a fast-paced growing company. The tax manager will be a qualified tax professional with solid experience in worldwide tax compliance, M&A, US domestic and international tax, indirect tax, and ASC 740. This role will require a person who is proactive and enjoys learning and new challenges. This role will be an active participant in income tax compliance and planning that is closely integrated with direct and indirect tax, in order to support the business from a holistic tax perspective.
Job Responsibility:
Income Tax Return Compliance: Work in collaboration with the team on the U.S. consolidated income tax return and state income tax returns, as well as local international subsidiary returns as needed
Indirect Tax Return Compliance: Work in collaboration with the indirect team on U.S. sales tax, indirect and business taxes, as well as special projects. Consider technology and process improvements to improve overall compliance processes
Financial Reporting: Support the accurate preparation of Roku income tax for Form 10Q/10K financial reporting
Planning Activities: Contribute to the implementation of tax planning strategies, which maximize savings on a defensible basis
Conduct tax research
Actively participate in the review of proposed transactions to properly advise management of tax consequences
Support the Federal income tax integration of business acquisitions, dispositions and restructurings
Tax Audits and Controversies: Evaluate and respond to requests for information from government tax authorities and participate in developing strategies to successfully defend tax filing positions
Support the coordination and implementation of audit strategies
Stay abreast of legal developments and industry positions in order to accurately evaluate options and responses to requests for information
Additional Activities: Provide technical tax advice and planning services to a portfolio of projects
Build strong working relationships with our internal project teams, developing your understanding of their unique needs and requirements
Develop your own knowledge, maintaining your status as a trusted advisor by monitoring emerging trends, technologies and practices
Assist with general compliance and special projects as needed
Requirements:
BS/BA in Accounting or Tax
CPA, MBA or an advanced degree with an emphasis in taxation
Minimum of 5-6 years of directly related tax experience, either Big 4 accounting firm or industry or both
Broad technical knowledge of US and international tax laws and regulations
Strong accounting skills including intercompany transactions and eliminations, as well as experience with statutory local accounting
Solid GAAP Financial Accounting/ASC 740 knowledge
Excellent business acumen with a sound understanding of the tax implications of a multi-national technology company
Detail-oriented, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Effective presentation skills and solid project management skills
The ability to communicate complex tax and industry concepts to colleagues and key stakeholders through strong writing and speaking skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, hands on mentality and can-do attitude
