Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Tax Manager to join our growing team in Portland, Maine. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead accounting and tax functions, while driving innovation in workflows and processes. The ideal candidate will bring advanced expertise in tax preparation and accounting, alongside a collaborative and client-focused approach.

Job Responsibility:

  • Oversee and manage accounting and bookkeeping tasks for clients, including balance sheet reconciliations, accounts receivable/payable transactions, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Prepare and manage individual and business tax returns with accuracy and efficiency
  • Conduct monthly financial reporting and 1099 preparation, ensuring compliance with regulations
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to staff, reviewing their work and helping them enhance their skills in bookkeeping and tax preparation
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients through proactive communication and exceptional service
  • Implement innovative tools and processes to improve workflow efficiency and accuracy
  • Assist with cash flow planning and financial strategy development for clients
  • Take on additional responsibilities as needed to support the firm’s growth and success.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in accounting and tax preparation, including individual and business returns
  • Proven ability to supervise and manage staff effectively
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting, CPA would be preferred but not a must have
  • Proficiency in tax software such as UltraTax and Drake, with recent experience in tax-related systems
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including vlookups and pivot tables
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a commitment to excellence and high standards
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new software applications and processes.
