As a Tax Manager, you will be part of our Finance team, supporting Westwing’s strategic expansion into the UK, Ireland, and Northern Ireland markets. By overseeing VAT compliance, navigating complex cross-border tax regulations, and collaborating with internal stakeholders, you will ensure that our tax processes remain compliant, efficient, and scalable as the business grows internationally. This position is permanent and based in Munich.
Job Responsibility:
Be a key contributor to our Finance team, supporting Westwing’s international growth and enabling our expansion into the UK and Irish markets
Manage end-to-end VAT compliance, including the review and approval of VAT returns and other local indirect tax filings, ensuring timely and accurate reporting across all relevant jurisdictions
Serve as the primary tax stakeholder for Westwing’s entry and development in the UK and Ireland, ensuring compliance with local VAT regulations and reporting obligations
Oversee complex cross-border VAT matters, including UK and Irish VAT requirements as well as post-Brexit trade regulations affecting Northern Ireland
Provide VAT advisory and tax guidance by analysing tax legislation, identifying potential risks, and proposing practical solutions for business transactions and operational processes
Act as the main point of contact for tax authorities during VAT audits, coordinating responses to enquiries from auditors and internal stakeholders, including managing relationships with HMRC and the Irish Revenue Commissioners
Drive continuous improvement of VAT processes, including leveraging AI to enhance VAT data quality, automate controls, and strengthen documentation, while ensuring compliance with digital VAT requirements such as e-invoicing and real-time reporting
Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders such as Accounting, Tech, and Customer Care teams to embed VAT-compliant processes and support VAT-related projects and business initiatives
Requirements:
A master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Law, or a related field
Several years of relevant professional experience in VAT compliance or tax advisory roles
Proven experience managing VAT compliance for international entities and cross-border trade, ideally including exposure to UK and Irish VAT regulations
Strong knowledge of ERP environments, with experience working with systems such as Microsoft Business Central or comparable platforms
The ability to analyse complex tax regulations and translate them into clear, practical solutions for business operations
A goal-oriented and independent working style, with strong attention to detail and the ability to navigate evolving tax regulations
Excellent communication skills and fluency in English (written and spoken)
Nice to have:
German language skills are considered a strong advantage for internal collaboration
