Job Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented Tax Associate to join a team in California on a contract-to-permanent basis. This position supports tax resolution matters by reviewing financial and tax documentation, preparing case materials, and coordinating with tax authorities. The role is ideal for someone who can manage multiple files accurately while contributing to a high standard of client service.

Job Responsibility

  • Work alongside experienced tax professionals to help shape and carry out effective resolution plans for client matters
  • Support new client intake by gathering documentation and helping move engagements smoothly into active service
  • Examine tax returns, account transcripts, financial records, and banking documents to identify facts relevant to each case
  • Communicate with federal and state tax agencies under authorized representation to obtain information and assist with case progress
  • Prepare materials for resolution programs such as payment arrangements, compromise requests, hardship status submissions, penalty relief requests, audit reviews, and appeals
  • Perform technical research using tax authority guidance, statutory rules, administrative procedures, and applicable state regulations
  • Draft client communications, supporting schedules, and case documentation with a strong focus on accuracy and completeness
  • Use case management tools and internal technology to keep files organized, current, and handled efficiently
  • Partner with administrative and tax team members to maintain workflow quality, meet productivity expectations, and support an 80% utilization target

Requirements

  • Experience in tax preparation or tax resolution work, with exposure to individual income tax matters
  • Knowledge of reviewing individual tax returns, financial statements, transcripts, and related supporting records
  • Familiarity with tax preparation platforms
  • Ability to communicate professionally with taxing authorities and clients regarding case status and documentation needs
  • Strong research skills with the ability to interpret tax rules, procedural guidance, and regulatory requirements
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines with careful attention to detail

Nice to have

Enrolled Agent credentials are preferred, or equivalent hands-on experience in tax representation work
