Job Description

We are looking for an experienced REMOTE Tax and Compliance Manager to lead indirect tax and regulatory compliance efforts for our organization. This position plays a central role in overseeing multi-state sales and use tax obligations, strengthening compliance controls, and reducing tax exposure across the business. The ideal candidate brings strong technical knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently while partnering effectively with finance teams and external advisors.

Job Responsibility

  • Direct end-to-end sales and use tax compliance activities across more than 40 states, ensuring accurate reporting, payment, and documentation
  • Manage state tax registrations, filing schedules, remittances, account reconciliations, and supporting records required for compliance and audit readiness
  • Track nexus developments, tax law updates, and regulatory changes, and translate those changes into practical compliance actions
  • Maintain accurate tax treatment for products and services by reviewing taxability rules and applying them consistently across operations
  • Lead the rollout, administration, and ongoing optimization of tax technology solutions, including automation platforms such as Avalara
  • Coordinate the preparation and submission of federal and state corporate tax filings in collaboration with external tax professionals
  • Oversee business registrations, statutory reporting obligations, and securities-related compliance requirements across applicable jurisdictions
  • Serve as the primary owner of tax risk management and compliance governance, while driving process improvements and supporting internal reviews and external audits

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in indirect tax, regulatory compliance, or a closely related area
  • Demonstrated expertise in multi-state sales and use tax compliance, including filings, remittance, and audit support
  • Strong understanding of compliance governance, risk management, and statutory filing requirements
  • Experience working with tax automation systems and related compliance technologies
  • Ability to function as an independent senior contributor and manage complex responsibilities with limited oversight
  • Proven success partnering with external tax advisors and collaborating with finance or accounting teams
  • Bachelor’s degree and CPA required
  • Master’s in Taxation is strongly preferred
