Job Description

We are looking for a Tax Accounting Manager - Public to join a public accounting team in Salinas, California. This role is suited for a tax specialist who can oversee return preparation, support client planning needs, and maintain high standards of accuracy across a range of tax engagements. The position requires a strong foundation in public tax accounting, sound judgment when working with sensitive financial data, and the ability to build trusted client relationships.

Job Responsibility

  • Prepare and review individual and business tax filings, ensuring complete and accurate reporting in line with applicable standards and firm guidelines
  • Input and organize client financial records and tax documentation within tax software to support efficient and accurate return completion
  • Manage communications with federal, state, and local tax authorities to address notices, resolve questions, and follow up on client matters
  • Provide support across accounting, bookkeeping, financial analysis, and planning activities that contribute to broader client tax strategies
  • Advise clients on tax-efficient approaches related to business growth, wealth considerations, and entity structuring needs
  • Complete annual income tax provision work and assist with corporate tax return processes for a variety of client engagements
  • Protect confidential client and firm information by consistently following established privacy, documentation, and information-handling procedures

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred
  • Experience preparing or reviewing individual tax returns and business tax returns in a public accounting environment
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles that support accurate tax return preparation and financial reporting
  • Familiarity with annual income tax provision work, corporate tax return preparation, and sales tax processes
  • Proficiency with tax software, including CCH ProSystem Fx or comparable platforms
  • Strong time management, organization, and analytical skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
  • Clear communication and relationship-building abilities, with a client-focused approach and sound problem-solving skills
