Job Description:

A well-established and growing tax and advisory firm is seeking a highly experienced Tax Accounting Leader to step into a succession-focused role designed to support the long-term continuity of the firm. This position is intended for an experienced Tax Accountant who is ready to assume increasing responsibility, work closely with ownership, and ultimately pursue partnership and firm leadership. This role goes beyond traditional senior accounting responsibilities. It offers a clear pathway to ownership succession, making it an excellent opportunity for someone seeking a lasting home and the ability to shape the future of a practice.

Job Responsibility:

  • Prepare and review complex federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S corporations, trusts, and other entities
  • Act as a trusted advisor to clients through strategic tax planning and year-round consultation
  • Manage IRS, FTB, and other taxing authority correspondence and resolutions
  • Oversee additional compliance filings including sales/use tax and business property tax
  • Maintain accurate and organized client documentation in line with firm standards
  • Drive process improvements, workflow efficiencies, and practice development initiatives
  • Mentor and support staff as part of leadership succession planning

Requirements:

  • Active CPA license required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • 12+ years of tax preparation experience, including at least 3 years in a senior or supervisory role
  • Strong technical expertise in tax compliance and planning across a wide range of entity types
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage client relationships
  • Proficiency with tax preparation software and Microsoft Office
  • Commitment to integrity, confidentiality, and excellence
  • Interested in a long-term leadership role with partnership potential
  • Comfortable stepping into a succession path for firm ownership
  • Strong communicator with a client-first mindset
  • Analytical, detail-oriented, and solutions-oriented

  • Manage uncertain tax positions documentation with external consultants, including setting the scope of work needed, provide information requested and review deliverables

  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of changes to tax laws and regulations and provide relevant updates and guidance to management
