Job Responsibility:

  • Prepare and submit exempt organization tax filings, including Forms 990, 990-EZ, 990-N, and 990-PF, while managing review, signature, and extension processes as needed
  • Coordinate directly with clients to gather financial data, validate documentation, resolve discrepancies, and ensure complete and accurate reporting for annual filings
  • Perform public support testing for applicable organizations and communicate findings clearly to internal stakeholders for follow-up and planning
  • Produce and file related tax and financial reporting documents such as FBARs, Forms 1099, and Schedule K-1 packages in accordance with reporting requirements
  • Maintain bookkeeping records for nonprofit clients by posting transactions, reconciling accounts, tracking donations and grant activity, and monitoring payroll and disbursement activity
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and assemble supporting financial materials for board meetings, grant reporting, and other stakeholder reporting needs
  • Serve as a liaison among clients, auditors, and external accounting professionals to support audits, tax return completion, and other compliance matters
  • Manage in-house accounting and regulatory reporting for affiliated entities, including invoicing, receivables oversight, state registration support, and required annual tax filings
  • Contribute to process improvements that strengthen client communication, increase efficiency, and enhance the overall quality of tax and bookkeeping services
  • Take on additional accounting, compliance, and reporting assignments as business needs evolve

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience preparing nonprofit tax returns, particularly Form 990 and related exempt organization filings
  • At least 10 years of bookkeeping or general accounting experience, with substantial exposure to nonprofit organizations and 501(c)(3) environments
  • Strong knowledge of core accounting principles, financial reconciliations, and regulatory reporting requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare or support filings such as Forms 1099, FBARs, and other tax compliance documents
  • Proficiency with Excel and Microsoft 365, along with experience using accounting platforms such as QuickBooks or Sage
  • Excellent attention to detail, sound organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines independently
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, auditors, and internal teams
