This role is within Aurora’s Vehicle Integration Test and Evaluation group, which is responsible for bridging the gap between Autonomous Vehicle development and real-world deployment by testing and evaluating the continuously evolving integration of a vehicle platform, sensors, compute platform and autonomy software. The role will consist of joining a small team that at its core specializes in collaborative test creation, hands-on test execution, initial results analysis and formal results reporting. Success in this role will require the ability to work independently, continuously learn, apply continuous work improvement processes, maintain flexible hours and perform in a collaborative environment.
Job Responsibility:
Establishing and maintaining a technical understanding of the fully integrated product (System-of-Systems) that spans across software and hardware design
Collecting and/or generating artifacts (primarily test or demonstration related artifacts) that provide verification evidence for behavioral, functional and safety requirements at higher levels of integration
Thorough designing and planning of test scenarios that may be executed in a variety of operational environments
Safe and efficient hands-on test execution and observation in a dynamic vehicle
Testing will primarily be conducted at local closed course facilities, but occasional travel to third party facilities will be required
Timely analysis of both real-time test observations and recorded data
Diligent reporting of formal test results to various internal stakeholders, with a focus on characterizing potential product deficiencies
Identifying safety related hazards associated with elevated risk testing and then assessing the associated initial risk, applying appropriate mitigations, and communicating the residual risk for acceptance/rejection
Establishing and maintaining familiarity with the increasingly capable suite of offline test environments at Aurora to support a comprehensive and complimentary test coverage approach
Requirements:
Degree in Engineering, Robotics or a related field
Minimum 3+ years of experience conducting hands-on test and evaluation of a highly-integrated, safety-critical product
Experience with the right side of the Systems Engineering ‘V’ - increasing levels of verification and validation with an understanding of product operation and maintenance
Real-world experience with the application of risk management concepts
Comfortable working with ambiguity, evolving priorities and challenging problems
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Nice to have:
Experience with formal product requirement management software such as Jama
Experience with CAN bus messages and associated diagnostic software such as Vector CANalyzer software
Experience with ethernet communications and associated diagnostic software such as Wireshark
Familiarity with Python and/or C++ and modern software development practices, designs and release processes
