Job Description:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Systems Operations Engineer to work on complex technical issues related to large-scale applications, systems, databases, and observability frameworks while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Job Responsibility:

  • Participate in complex technical issues and initiatives related to large scale applications, systems, databases, or other technical products and services
  • Identify opportunity for process improvements within technical support strategies and plans
  • Review and analyze technical queries to extract data, create standard databases, or perform limited programming to fine tune systems supporting low to medium risk technical deliverables
  • Present recommendations for resolving complex technical queries
  • Exercise some independent judgment to analyze performance trends and recommend process improvements while developing understanding of technical process controls or standards
  • Work as an internal consultant regarding use of tools and processes
  • Provide information related to supported system area to functional colleagues, internal partners and stakeholders, including internal customers
  • Collaborate with Vertical Application Support Teams
  • Enhance Observability Frameworks
  • Integrate observability tools into application environments
  • Optimize dashboards, alerts, and reports to provide actionable insights
  • Develop automation scripts using Python or Shell
  • Use SQL to extract, analyze, and correlate data from monitoring platforms and application databases
  • Participate in incident triage and post-mortem analysis
  • Maintain clear documentation of observability configurations, standards, and best practices
  • Conduct knowledge-sharing sessions with support teams

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of Systems Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • Monitoring and Observability Engineer
  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience in monitoring and observability tools across enterprise-scale environments
  • Proven experience in implementing, configuring, and maintaining AppDynamics, ThousandEyes, Splunk, Grafana, Prometheus, Elastic Stack (ELK)
  • Strong scripting skills in Python or Shell for automation, data parsing, and custom integrations
  • Solid understanding of SQL with the ability to write complex queries for data analysis and reporting
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams

Nice to have:

  • Experience with cloud-native monitoring tools like AWS CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, or Google Cloud Operations Suite
  • Familiarity with GenAI-powered observability features in platforms like Splunk AI Assistant or Dynatrace Davis AI for automated insights and RCA
  • Knowledge of OpenTelemetry for distributed tracing and integration with cloud-native environments
  • Ability to use GenAI for incident summarization and documentation, improving post-mortem analysis and knowledge sharing
  • Exposure to Kubernetes observability using Prometheus, Grafana, and service mesh tools like Istio
  • Basic understanding of ML-based anomaly detection and time-series forecasting for predictive monitoring
