Amentum is seeking a Systems Engineer Lead - SysML to support the Space Force Range Contract (SFRC). The candidate will support the Space Force Range Contract (SFRC) Systems Engineering, Integration & Test (SEIT) organization responsible for sustaining and modernizing launch range capabilities at Patrick SFB and Vandenberg SFB. This role applies Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles to develop and maintain authoritative system models, manage requirements traceability, support subsystem integration, and enable enterprise-level decision-making across shared range subsystems. The engineer operates within a multi-site, multi-stakeholder environment supporting launch operations, modernization initiatives, and sustainment activities.
Job Responsibility:
Develop, maintain, and mature SysML system models representing functional, logical, and physical architectures
Establish bidirectional traceability between requirements, interfaces, behaviors, and verification artifacts
Author and maintain requirement diagrams, block definition diagrams, internal block diagrams, activity diagrams, sequence diagrams, interface models, and parametric models
Support digital engineering initiatives ensuring models function as authoritative sources of truth
Decompose customer and enterprise-level requirements into subsystem allocations
Maintain requirements traceability matrices and digital linkages within the model
Support Interface Control Working Groups (ICWGs) and configuration control boards
Identify interface risks and integration gaps across range subsystems
Support verification and validation (V&V) planning through model-derived verification mapping
Assist in development of integration test strategies across Eastern and Western Ranges
Provide model-based impact assessments for engineering changes
Support anomaly resolution and structured root cause investigations
Contribute to risk identification, assessment, and mitigation planning
Support configuration management processes ensuring models remain aligned with baselined documentation
Participate in change management boards and technical governance reviews
Interface with government stakeholders, Subsystem Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), cybersecurity, safety, and sustainment teams
Provide technical assessments to SEIT leadership
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
5+ years of systems engineering experience in aerospace, defense, or complex infrastructure systems
Demonstrated hands-on experience with SysML and MBSE tools (e.g., Cameo/MagicDraw, Rhapsody, Capella, or equivalent)
Experience with requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, Jama, or similar)
Working knowledge of requirements decomposition, interface management, integration and verification processes, and configuration control
Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance, which includes U.S. citizenship
Nice to have:
Experience supporting launch operations, range systems, or mission-critical operational systems
Familiarity with digital engineering strategies aligned to DoD guidance
Experience working across geographically distributed engineering teams
Exposure to reliability, maintainability, and availability (RMA) considerations
Understanding of cybersecurity integration within system architecture
