The System Engineer-II is responsible for effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems and related procedures adhere to organizational values, enabling the University of Kansas Hospital and related entities to provide the best possible patient care and financial management. The System Engineer-II takes a primary tactical role in the ownership of projects and issues as assigned. This individual serves as liaison between project teams, coordinates with system administrators and other co-workers to solve problems and provide solutions and improve processes.
Job Responsibility:
Serves as a Tier-II or Tier-III support resource, engaging other team resources as necessary and as defined by support processes
Participates in the deployment of infrastructure systems for IT and business customers. Contribute to the proactive identification of automation opportunities in workflow, electronic information availability, and new systems management tools
Takes ownership of the timely completion of assigned project tasks. Adheres to the departmental and organizational project management methodologies
Represents the Server Design, Development and Enterprise Storage team in a positive and constructive manner
Supports and maintains a usable system for the end users. Works with vendors or other outside resources as well as the internal Hospital teams to resolve system issues within the service level agreements
Maintains documentation on the systems technical configuration, contacts and functionality. Contributes and maintains common trouble shooting tips in the designated knowledge base. Keeps current vendor and system data owner’s contact information in the designated location. Maintains relevant training materials for systems
Responsibilities include planning and scheduling system upgrades and updates. This also includes coordination with other HITS teams, vendors, users, interfaces, and other systems that feed or accept information from this system. This would include server as well as workstation updates. Follows department change request processes
Works with application administrators to insure retention periods for the application data are following Hospital or regulatory requirements
Apply approved procedures and industry best practices on performance, confidentiality, integrity, and availability of applicable systems or solutions to deployed systems
Functions as the coordination point for issues related to the applications, between functional administrators and TRC. Act as an escalation point for issues with assigned systems that cannot be resolved in TRC
Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department
Requirements:
High School Graduate
5 or more years Experience in IT Field
Nice to have:
Bachelors Degree in Information Technology or related field or 2:1 equivalent experience
