BAE Systems – Principal Systems Engineer (Architecture) Location: Barrow-in-Furness or Filton Contract: 12 months Rate: £58 PAYE or £78.33 Umbrella    Please note that you will have to go through full SC Clearance.    This role focuses on systems architecture development within a highly complex and safety-critical engineering programme.    Key responsibilities include: Developing and maintaining system architectures across large-scale, integrated defence platforms Defining and decomposing system functions into coherent architectural models and design structures Ensuring alignment between system architecture, requirements, and downstream design implementation Supporting trade studies and design decisions to optimise system performance, safety, and capability Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure architectural consistency across subsystems Contributing to technical governance, design reviews, and assurance activities at system level Ensuring compliance with applicable standards and engineering best practice within a regulated environment Ideal experience includes: Strong systems architecture experience in complex engineering environments (defence, marine, aerospace, etc.) Familiarity with model-based systems engineering approaches and architectural frameworks Ability to communicate complex technical structures clearly to both engineering and non-engineering stakeholders

  • Assist in the evaluation of the feasibility and performance of different architectural options
  • Provide technical support to the team on architectural matters
  • Ensure that the architectures are aligned with Department of War (DoW, formerly Department of Defense (DoD)) and USINDOPACOM standards
  • Collaborate with other engineers and stakeholders to develop integrated solutions
  • Provide on-site support and troubleshooting during experimentation events
  • Conceptualize operational needs and solutions at a high level and then develop technical requirements and recommend solutions to drive improvement to existing design and solutions
  • Oversee the strategic interface for system of systems configuration, network configuration, strategically plan new configurations for network operations using knowledge of the characteristics of the systems being added to the network, and the specifications for network interfaces to ensure effective integration and optimal network performance
