Job Description

Our client is seeking an experienced Systems Administrator / Systems Engineer to join their team supporting clients throughout the Metro Detroit area. This is a hands-on technical role responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving Windows-based infrastructure, virtualization platforms, networking environments, and end-user systems. The ideal candidate is passionate about technology, enjoys solving complex technical problems, and is comfortable working both remotely and on-site with clients. Successful candidates will have strong experience with Windows Server administration, virtualization, networking, backups, and infrastructure migrations.

Job Responsibility

  • Install, configure, maintain, and support Windows server environments
  • Administer Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, file servers, IIS, and Microsoft Exchange
  • Manage virtualization platforms including VMware and Hyper-V
  • Perform server maintenance, upgrades, patching, and health monitoring
  • Support storage solutions including SAN environments
  • Provide advanced desktop support for Windows 10 and Windows 11 environments
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, printer, and peripheral issues
  • Install, configure, and support desktops, laptops, and mobile devices
  • Perform hardware integration, upgrades, and replacements
  • Support and troubleshoot LAN/WAN infrastructure
  • Configure and maintain TCP/IP networking, routing, subnetting, DNS, and DHCP
  • Assist with switches, firewalls, wireless networking, and VoIP phone systems
  • Recommend infrastructure improvements and best practices to clients
  • Configure and maintain backup solutions including Veeam, Datto, Barracuda, and other enterprise backup platforms
  • Support disaster recovery planning and recovery efforts
  • Assist with infrastructure security and system hardening
  • Support clients with compliance initiatives, including CMMC (preferred)
  • Provide remote and on-site technical support to clients throughout the Metro Detroit area
  • Diagnose and resolve infrastructure, server, desktop, and networking issues
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical users
  • Document all work performed accurately and thoroughly
  • Participate in server replacements, system upgrades, and infrastructure refreshes
  • Assist with migrations from legacy systems to modern environments
  • Recommend technology improvements that enhance reliability, security, and performance

Requirements

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience administering Windows-based IT infrastructure
  • Strong experience with: Windows Server (2008 R2, 2012, 2016 or newer)
  • Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy
  • VMware and/or Hyper-V
  • Microsoft Exchange
  • Backup technologies including Veeam, Datto, Barracuda, StorageCraft, or similar
  • TCP/IP networking, routing, and subnetting
  • Windows desktop operating systems (Windows 10/11)
  • Experience performing server installations, upgrades, and migrations
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to users of varying technical backgrounds
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
  • Reliable transportation for local client travel

Nice to have

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience
  • Industry certifications such as A+, Network+, Microsoft, VMware, Cisco CCNA, or similar
  • Experience with Linux administration
  • Experience supporting SAN environments
  • Experience with VoIP platforms
  • Familiarity with CMMC compliance requirements
