Provide health and safety system related services and mindset to implement and support project duties within the Occupational Safety and Systems Safety Program under the direction of management. Act as primary safety representative at Hypergolic Storage Facility during hazardous operations being performed utilizing engineering principles to maintain systems compliance. Review routine and hazardous operations for compliance with standard procedures and the fixed regulatory requirements of Federal and State Occupational Health and Safety Programs as well as OSHA Process Safety Management program. Make recommendations to management to improve employee health and safety and reduce exposure to occupational injury and illness. Final decisions are made by others. This is a union, non-exempt position with the Teamsters and the hourly pay rate is $ 60.01.
Job Responsibility:
Interface on health and safety matters and provide support to ASSC operations and activities at VSFB
Interface with customers as required maintaining a high level of professional support and cooperation
Ensure all activities are conducted in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations
Performs Process Safety Management functions as required by OSHA having responsibility over assigned elements of the PSM standard and the record keeping of applicable documents
Conduct regular audits of the work environment to ensure personnel are working to procedures and required personal protective equipment is utilized
Performs engineering calculations, assessments, studies, etc. as necessary in support of daily operations involving cryogenic liquids, pressurized gases, and hypergolic missile propellants
Perform risk assessments, hazards analysis, ergonomic evaluations and risk resolution
Develop priorities for compliance based upon risk assessment matrix
Develop, implement and maintain a Systems Safety Program and Safety Plan
Participate in Safety Working Group with the United States Space Force
Provide Systems Safety support for sustaining Engineering, facility and/or procedural changes, employee training and recordkeeping, and emergency response development
Interface with customer as required to provide current status of the overall environmental health and safety program
Participate/Chair Systems Safety Working Group and annotate monthly meetings
Provide technical direction to technicians in the performance of Operations, EFI's, Repairs, or Troubleshooting as necessary
Assist as necessary to investigate accidents, annotate records, and make recommendations to management to prevent secondary occurrence
Design, review and implement procedures for both critical and hazardous operations and review with appropriate members of SLD30 Safety
Knowledge and compliance of the following standards and codes: ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, ASME B31.3 System Piping & Tubing Standard, AWS welding standards, CGA compressed gas standards, DOT regulations for portable pressure vessels, Military Standards relating to propellants and propellant systems, and AFSPCMAN 91-710 Range Safety regulations
Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be required to support ASSC operations
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, industrial technology, safety, environmental or related field of science
Recent and relevant experience in engineering or safety operations within the aerospace industry, preferably within the Department of Defense are required
Experience in interacting with engineering and safety regulatory personnel, overseeing contractors/subcontractors
Knowledge, understanding and working familiarity with MIL-STD 882, as tailored, AFSPCMAN 91-710, and Federal, State, and Local health and safety regulations
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Must be computer and software proficient
Knowledge of a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures in propellants, or related area will be applied
PC skills with experience in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook), and engineering/drafting software such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD
