Job Description

A position of Project System Engineer is now open in Airbus CRISA (Airbus Defense & Space) in Tres Cantos (Madrid area) for different Space business: Launchers, Earth Exploration (Copernicus), Space Exploration (Artemis), Commercial (Telecommunications Satellites). This is an opportunity to join a diverse and dynamic Technical Team focused on: Shape the future based on innovation of our products, new technologies and way of working, State of the art product consolidation, Continuous Performance improvement. In accordance with the proven Candidate skills, she/he will be part of the Systems Engineer Team. Functionally, the Candidate is also part of the Project, with the main mission of developing/designing electronic units for flight equipment to achieve the unit delivery in accordance with project schedule, cost and quality requirements. In a day-to-day basis, she/he will report to Project Manager. The System Engineer is the Responsible of the Design acting as a key role of the Project Team. The selected candidate will work very closely to the Project Manager, together with the Product Assurance Manager, the Industrial Manager, the Validation Manager and the EEE/PCB manager. The System Engineer’s tasks comprise the complete development of an electronic equipment: from the analysis of the requirements in the Negotiation Phase to the potential support on flight, after the final delivery of the flight model once accepted. For this purpose, the Candidate will lead a team of engineers responsible of the final design of the unit coming from different areas (Power, Analog, Digital, FPGA, EEE, Radiation, Mechanical, Thermal, Materials and Process), aligned with Project and Team objectives.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead the technical discussions with the customer during the Negotiation Phase, prior to formal kick-off of the project up to the in flight operations of the Space System
  • Assist to the Project Manager in the requirement assessment and in the risk identification
  • Definition of the architecture of the Electronic Unit based on the project requirements in close co-engineering with other stakeholders (FPGA, Mechanical, Thermal, Validation, Materials and Processes, EEE, Radiation)
  • Perform the flow down of the project requirements to each module or function by keeping uniformity on design rules
  • Work closely with the Validation manager to optimize both the Flight Unit and the Ground Equipment designs focusing on a Design for Testing philosophy
  • Be implicated in the characterization and acceptance tests both at function/module level (lead by designers) and unit level, in collaboration with Validation Manager
  • Collaborate with Industrialization Team to agree the unit requirements based on Design for Manufacturing rules and deliver on time
  • Lead technical issues resolution, in strong collaboration with experts as necessary under quality and programmatic rules
  • Document and report the design in different documents (Design Description, Worst Case Analysis Summary, Failure Mode Analysis, Part Stress Analysis, Reliability Analysis) to provide design robustness against the different stakeholder during the different project milestones (Requirement Review, Preliminary and Architecture Review, Critical Design Review…)
  • During the recurrent phase of the project, the Candidate shall ensure close monitoring of any deviation, evolution and/or discrepancy from the agreed design
  • Act as chairman in the Design Reviews of the different functions of the Electronic Unit
  • Customer oriented, being able to reach a trust relationship based on a proactive and continuous support to show confidence on the design

Requirements

  • Educated to Master degree level (or equivalent) in engineering or science discipline
  • At least five years of experience in the development of Electronic Units
  • English and Spanish must be negotiation-level, both written and spoken
  • Technical excellence and technical challenge spirit
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills (both internal and external)

  • Digital mindset (automation of tasks, scripting, use of digital design tools and simulators)
  • To be familiar with Agile Methodologies
  • Good knowledge of design methodologies for space application and tools (Mentor, LTSPice, Matlab, SIMetrix-SIMPLIS) will be considered a plus
