The System Administrator Storage opportunity sits within Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre's Platforms Team, which is responsible for maintaining and operating critical storage infrastructure used by researchers across Australia. Pawsey is a world‑class national facility operated by CSIRO on behalf of its university partners and government stakeholders. As part of a team of experienced system administrators and technical specialists, you will support the reliability, performance and service delivery of Pawsey's long‑term storage platforms and associated services, ensuring they meet agreed service expectations. The role will be primarily hands‑on and onsite in Perth, involving work with physical servers, network fibre, disk and tape hardware. Success in this role will require strong collaboration, ticket management and close coordination with Pawsey colleagues and service partners.
Job Responsibility:
Provide systems support for operation and maintenance of Pawsey Banksia storage infrastructure which includes: Spectralogic Enterprise tape storage in T-Finity tape Libraries, Versity software, ScoutFS archive filesystem, Banksia file system storage infrastructure - DDN 7990 disk arrays, Banksia system backups, ScoutFS metadata backups, Kafka message bus, keycloak, monitoring and logging systems for Banksia (on Linux)
Undertake problem solving for the Banksia storage system, services and workflows ensuring maximum uptime for Banksia operation
Ensure effective responses to Banksia system support issues via ticketing system
Ensure effective documentation for Banksia systems support and operating procedures
Requirements:
Tertiary or graduate qualification in Science, Computing or Engineering, or equivalent experience
Experience in the administration of Linux or Unix systems
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to use these skills to engage effectively with colleagues and clients
The ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team under the general guidance of senior technical staff
The ability and willingness to contribute novel ideas and approaches in support of providing computing services to researchers or clients
Experience providing IT support through a ticket management system, including triaging, prioritising, resolving and escalating incidents in line with service levels
