We are looking for a calm, service-oriented Switchboard Operator to support critical communications for a hospital environment in Seattle, Washington. This Long-term Contract position is ideal for someone who can manage a fast-paced call volume, relay information clearly, and remain composed when urgent situations arise. The role plays an important part in connecting patients, staff, and departments while helping ensure timely communication across the facility.
Job Responsibility
Manage a high volume of incoming calls and direct each call to the appropriate department, unit, or staff member with professionalism and accuracy
Initiate emergency code announcements promptly and clearly, ensuring urgent messages are communicated throughout the hospital without delay
Provide steady and effective communication support during high-pressure events, including emergency response situations and lockdown-related procedures
Create and process paging requests through the designated ticketing workflow to support timely internal communication
Assist with inpatient communication by handling calls that originate from bedside and hospital-based communication systems
Deliver overhead pages in a clear, concise, and composed manner so messages are easily understood across the facility
Adhere closely to hospital communication standards, emergency response procedures, and established operational protocols
Support communication continuity across the hospital system by prioritizing urgent requests and maintaining accurate call handling practices
Requirements
Experience operating a multi-line switchboard or high-volume phone system in a detail-oriented setting
Ability to transfer calls efficiently while maintaining accuracy, courtesy, and strong attention to detail
Comfortable working in a hospital, inpatient, or emergency services environment where priorities can change quickly
Proven ability to stay calm and make sound decisions during urgent or high-stress situations
Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to speak clearly for paging, overhead announcements, and emergency notices
Familiarity with switchboard operations, phone routing, and internal communication support processes
Ability to follow detailed procedures and comply with established emergency communication protocols
