Job Description:

Lawrence C of E Primary School in Woking is looking for a competent and qualified Swimming Teacher to teach our children aged 4 to 11 for the Summer term in our school pool. Fixed-term for 10 weeks from w/c 20th April 2026. The Swimming Teacher is responsible for the safe and student-centred delivery of high quality swimming lessons for students of all ages and abilities with a core age group of 4-11years. Our swimming lessons are delivered to small groups following the Swim England Learn to Swim Programme.

Job Responsibility:

  • Delivering safe and high-quality swimming lessons appropriate to the level of the class and student
  • Preparing activity areas to include the safe setting up/dismantling of equipment and ensuring that all equipment is stored safely and securely when not in use
  • Planning and delivering a progressive swimming programme following the Swim England Learn to Swim Programme
  • Record attendance and assessment results using the poolside tablet during each session
  • Ensure sessions run to time
  • Working as part of a team to ensure the smooth operation of the facility
  • Following Pool Safety Operating Procedures
  • Meeting the training and development requirements of the job role
  • Working within the job role description at this level, recognising the standards and professional limitations that this provides, referring to appropriate members of staff for guidance and support
  • To administer First Aid as required
  • To act in accordance with, and actively promote Lawrence C of E Primary School’s policies and standards
  • To undertake any other duties commensurate with the post’s level of responsibility as directed by the PE Lead or Headteacher

Requirements:

  • Water Safety: RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ)
  • Teaching Swimming: SEQ Level 2 Teaching Swimming Qualification or ASA Level 2 Award in Teaching Aquatics (QCF)
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to undertake routine maintenance and basic cleaning
  • Ability to deliver high-quality service with minimal supervision
  • Ability to maintain the standards required by Swim England for Learn to Swim teachers
  • Understanding of the Swim England Learn to Swim Programme or equivalent and how it may map across to the Swim England levels
  • DBS certificate holder or happy to provide information to enable this to be obtained prior to start date
  • Hold a valid NPLQ (lifeguard) certificate
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and other legislation in relation to sports and leisure centre operations
  • Understanding of Pool Safe Operating Procedures
  • Experience of achieving results and making a difference to customers

  • Ensure the checking (reporting any defects), set up and put away of equipment securely and tidily after the session
  • Supervise the arrival, departure and handover of the lesson promptly and register all attendances
  • Monitor class sizes and unexpected arrivals and alert the Swim Coordinator/Manager at the earliest opportunity of any problems/queries
  • Complete regular Progress Reports using the electronic tablets on each individual swimmer ensuring they are detailed, positive and constructive
  • Ensure effective communication is used at all times and relevant for all swimmers with regular individual feedback

  • Interacts with parents/guardians to discuss student progress
  • Acts as a GSS “ambassador” to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Conducts weekly audits of the Deck Supervisor Rosters, Deck Supervisor Notes, Training Logs, Pump Room Checklist, Cleaning Checklist and Visual Scheduler
