Transport & Environment (T&E), the leading Brussels-based NGO promoting cleaner transport in Europe, is offering a sustainable finance expert position starting in April 2026. The successful candidate will play a leading role in T&E’s work on financing sustainable aviation and shipping fuels. As part of T&E’s Sustainable Finance team, they will help channel private and public investments into sustainable economic activities. The role will involve close collaboration with the Director of the Sustainable Finance team, based in Brussels.
Job Responsibility:
Take a leading role in T&E’s work on financing clean fuels for the aviation and maritime sectors, coordinating positions across teams
Lead and deliver research projects on the design and impacts of financial instruments to decarbonize the aviation and maritime sectors
Develop policy recommendations and write briefings on investments for clean fuels
Advocate to EU institutions, public banks and private investors to scale up green e-fuels production for offtake in aviation and shipping
Present research findings and policy recommendations internally and externally, building support through coalition and stakeholder engagement
Provide input on other sustainable finance topics related to aviation and shipping, including the EU Taxonomy
Support T&E’s policy and communication strategies and the Sustainable Finance team’s planning and core activities
Requirements:
Expertise in financial instrument design, industrial policy and sustainable finance
At least three years of relevant experience in economic policy and/or the financial sector
Proven project management and analytical skills, with experience leading and implementing research projects on the design and impacts of financial instruments
Solid understanding of the EU investment framework and EU decision-making processes
The confidence to think and act with initiative is essential
Strong advocacy skills and experience engaging with public institutions
Excellent communication and presentation skills in English
Ability to write in English fluently, accurately and concisely, and experience in drafting policy papers
Strong interpersonal and team-working skills and an ability to deliver to tight deadlines
Nice to have:
Knowledge of the e-fuels industry and its economics, or of shipping and aviation finance
Expertise in the EU budget and public banks
Other European languages
