Job Description

NSG Environmental Ltd has been delivering work programmes in the nuclear industry for over 40 years. Traditionally in the areas of decommissioning and waste management, NSG now has a broad customer base and provides a wide spectrum of services across the nuclear project lifecycle, ranging from expert consultancy support, R&D and engineering design to rekit and refurbishment, site installation services and high-hazard physical decommissioning works, amongst others. This work is delivered at NSG’s own offices and purpose-built facilities and nuclear sites across the UK. The delivery and management of these projects and programmes of work is carried out by a skilled workforce composed of both white-collar and blue-collar personnel in technical, administrative, and physical roles. Job Responsibility

  • Assist the Sustainability Lead in delivering NSG’s sustainability agenda
  • Support the development of more sustainable practices across NSG, our environment and the communities in which we operate
  • Undertake training to gain the core skills and experience necessary to competently deliver the tasks required and to progress effectively within the company
  • Promote the image and reputation of NSG and the Sustainability team
  • Provide sustainability technical support to Business Development teams involved in generating internal and external work for NSG
  • When supporting technical projects, be accountable to the task or project manager for delivery within agreed scope, timescales and cost requirements
  • Accountable to line manager for utilisation, including notifying when at risk of being over- or under-utilised
  • Provide technical support in sustainability, including environmental protection, waste minimisation, carbon reduction, social value, community engagement and strategy development
  • Develop competence and maintain up-to-date knowledge of sustainability legislation, standards, reporting requirements and industry best practice
  • Support the production of high-quality sustainability management and reporting documents, including the Gender Pay Gap Report and Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting
  • Support the preparation of internal sustainability procedures, guidance documents and risk assessments
  • Provide sustainability support to projects and contracts, ensuring sustainability considerations are embedded where relevant
  • Promote social responsibility and help embed sustainability across NSG
  • Produce written tender responses relating to social value and sustainability, including supporting tables and graphics, in line with required tender timescales
  • Support the development and maintenance of standardised tender responses relating to social value and sustainability
  • Work collaboratively with wider NSG teams, including ESH&Q, People, Procurement and Commercial, to support sustainability delivery
  • Attend, record notes and contribute to sustainability-related meetings
  • Support delivery of the Sustainability Strategy and associated action plan
  • Liaise with delivery teams on assigned activities, tasks and projects
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with NSG Operating Divisions, clients and stakeholders to support NSG’s business ethos
  • Support internal and external meetings and workshops within areas of expertise, including providing technical secretariat support where required
  • Co-author papers and contribute to internal and external committees, meetings and events as required
  • Attend and engage with external sustainability stakeholders, networks and groups
  • Represent NSG and deliver presentations on sustainability initiatives and progress at external events
  • Identify, agree, initiate and manage community engagement programmes and philanthropic activities
  • Maintain awareness of new developments and best practice in sustainability

Requirements

  • Knowledge/interest in Sustainability
  • Recognised professional qualifications (e.g. BSc/MSc/PhD)
  • Working as part of a team
  • Developing technical competence in one or more areas of sustainability, such as environmental protection, carbon reduction, social value, community engagement or sustainability strategy
  • Ability to independently represent NSG on aspect of sustainability
  • Familiar with structuring and presentation of own work
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office applications
  • Able to research, interpret and summarise sustainability information clearly
  • Able to work independently and remain accountable to the task, project or bid manager for own work, including understanding the impact of own work on schedule and cost
  • Able to deliver assigned tasks and activities to agreed quality, time and budget requirements
