The Sustainability Coordinator applies professional concepts and skills to support the planning, coordination, and implementation of sustainability efforts for the University. This position will focus on the development and promotion of inclusive sustainability initiatives for students, staff, and faculty related to sustainable operations and co-curricular programs. Leverage UC San Diego's 2024 AASHE STARS Platinum rating to identify key opportunities for advancing campus sustainability initiatives. Provide recommendations and guidelines involving sustainability programs and initiatives. This role involves providing professional-level analytical and technical support on a variety of projects related to University sustainability efforts, gathering data and information, including annual reporting, benchmarking, and climate action planning, to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement. Support the Campus Sustainability Officer with coordination of Sustainability & Climate Action Plan engagement and implementation of ongoing sustainability programming. Assist with development of sustainability trainings and assessments, and integration of sustainability within campus orientations and campus tours. Summarize and present information on sustainability efforts in a clear and concise manner, applicable to diverse audiences. Assist with coordination of special events and meetings, such as Earth Week and Sustainability Committee meetings. Serve as a campus representative for UC systemwide Sustainability Working Group calls as needed. Collect and prepare information for use in discussions, meetings, and presentations. The position includes driving responsibilities to support event logistics and campus engagement activities using a university vehicle. Ensure sustainability efforts are effectively promoted and outreached through communication channels, including social media, newsletters, and websites. Promote UC San Diego's sustainability efforts by utilizing campus expertise and peer institution best practices. Support the supervision of student interns and fellows, providing guidance and oversight to ensure successful project outcomes and an inclusive work environment. Overall, the Sustainability Coordinator will support UC San Diego with promoting a culture of sustainability that drives progress towards sustainability goals and objectives in alignment with the mission and values of the University.

Requirements
Bachelor's degree and / or equivalent experience / training in environmental science, management, or policy
architecture or planning
engineering
or public health
Working knowledge of environmental sustainability and policy
Working knowledge of U.S. Green Building Council rating systems
Knowledge of sustainability concepts and practices, including LEED systems, climate action plans, food service systems, procurement, and waste management practices
Demonstrates ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns
Proficient ability to build collaborative relationships across the organization
Proficient in communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
Demonstrates ability to analyze, research, and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail
Familiar with all software applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Access) and database applications
Ability to lead, engage, and motivate students with project initiatives
Experience with the development, coordination, and implementation of sustainability focused programs and projects
Ability to create clear, concise correspondence, presentations, and outreach communications
Demonstrated ability to apply and model the Principles of Community in all interactions
DMV, DOJ and FBI background checks and clearances required prior to employment
Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver License to operate University vehicles and participate in the DMV Pull Notice Program
