Our client Scottish Power Transmissions are seeking a Sustainability Advisor for a minimum 12 month contract role based in Cambuslang, working on a Hybrid basis.
Job Responsibility:
Supporting the SPT Sustainability Specialist (Biodiversity), Sustainability Department and Engineering and Construction staff to deliver, monitor and review the RIIO-T Environmental and Sustainability commitments with a focus on nature
Supporting the continued implementation and improvement of the company’s Sustainability goals
Provide sustainability specialist knowledge and advice to internal and external parties for the engineering and construction of energy related projects
Supporting delivery of the Sustainability and Environmental commitments within the RIIO-T2 £1.8bn and T3 £11bn Capex programmes: o To the required timescales agreed in the business plan o Setting strategies plans with all key stakeholders to ensure commitments are met o Highlighting and addressing any blockers to achieving the commitments to management o Supporting the delivery of ~£150m of biodiversity enhancement schemes across the SPT Licence area
Provide support and advice on nature impacts and solutions to project teams prior to and throughout construction period
Develop and implement new methods, techniques, and practices to improve sustainability performance with a focus on nature outcomes
Supporting strategies to achieve nature positive across SP Transmission
Undertaking environmental cost benefit analyses
Baselining and analysis of SPT projects and offsite nature enhancement schemes
Delivery of biodiversity enhancement initiatives and compensatory planting requirements
Managing and analysing data and supporting project level sustainability processes
Impact analysis of new legislation, regulations, and standards
Engaging / communicating with internal and external stakeholders
Supporting with regulatory report submissions
Supporting the delivery of pilot sustainability projects or innovation trials
Support the delivery of our RIIO-3 Environmental Action Plan
Reporting on sustainability performance of projects and activities
Providing accurate data and reporting information across a wide range of sustainability activities
Requirements:
Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline e.g. sustainability, environmental or engineering
Experience in nature restoration works and/or development and delivery of forestry schemes
Advanced analytical and data management skills
Knowledge of a range of sustainability topics including Science Based Targets, the Net Zero transition, circular economy, biodiversity and natural capital accounting and carbon offsetting
Awareness of general work activities conducted by an electricity network operator
Demonstrable experience of working in a collaborative team and taking initiative / ownership of individual tasks
Well-developed report writing and presentation skills
Knowledge of legislation and policy influencing carbon, the circular economy and climate change
Experience of working in a multi-project environment with time constrained and sometimes conflicting deadlines
Interpersonal skills – must be able to quickly form effective working relationships at all levels, up to and including Directors and external stakeholders
Competent in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc)
Experience of monitoring environmental and performance metrics against project deliverables
Ability to effectively manage and prioritise multiple diverse requests and workload to meet customer expectations from both within the SP Transmission team, the SPEN Business and external stakeholders
Ability to facilitate workshops and working groups and help to create detailed project plans. Some of the plans will be complex in nature with many interdependencies
Takes responsibility for managing and delivering tasks / small projects to agreed deadlines, proactively escalating potential issues to the Senior Project Manager where required
Degree level qualification, preferably in an environmental or engineering discipline
Practical understanding of the Utilities Industry
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications – particularly Word and Excel
