Job Description:

General Excavating is searching for a highly motivated Surveyor, who is expected to assist and monitor construction related activities in field operations. This role is responsible for the support of Project Managers and Superintendents to ensure project success. Assists with overall management of construction project sites and procurement through final acceptance, while ensuring project safety. Maximizes profits and cost controls to maintain stability and growth of the organization.

Job Responsibility:

Support Project Managers and Superintendents to ensure project success.
Assist with overall management of construction project sites and procurement through final acceptance, while ensuring project safety.
Coordinate with Foreman / Superintendent / Project Manager to assist with recording data and layout of work.
Set up GPS Base stations on horizontal and vertical control established by others. Set additional control as needed.
Verify staking and layout against project plans and specifications to ensure accuracy.
Interpret project plans, specifications, and survey records to plan field survey work.
Ensure as-built documentation of completed work through GPS data collection and redlines drawings are maintained weekly.
Review recorded points and field conditions and support quality control activities by verifying layout and dimensional tolerances.
Download, process, and upload field data.
Maintain organized survey records, including control points, field notes, and digital files.
Troubleshoot and provide support with GPS and grade control equipment to maintain accuracy.
Perform layout of work to establish reference points, elevations, and alignments in accordance with plans.
Participate in dig permit processes according to project requirements.
Coordinate with on-site personnel engaged in planning work procedures, executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, plans, and coordinating various phases of construction to prevent delays.
Monitor and document site conditions, project benchmarks, and control changes throughout the construction process.
Ensure proper use, maintenance, and security of all survey equipment and tools.
Complete work according to project safety program requirements.

Requirements:

Three (3) years minimum related experience
or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
Ability to add, subtract multiply and divide.
Ability to perform operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
Ability to read a tape measure and convert inches into tenths.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations.
Physical demands: use hands and fingers to handle or feel, reach with arms, climb or balance
stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear, frequently lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds without assistance.
Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Must meet conditions of employment: pre-employment reference & background checks, post offer drug testing with fit for employment screening.
