Job Description:

This is technical and manual work assisting the Survey Technician in all aspects of conducting varied survey assignments. The incumbent exercises some independence of judgement and action within established guidelines and procedures, referring more difficult matters to a superior who reviews work performance in terms of effective assistance rendered in all aspects of surveying activities.

Job Responsibility:

  • Assist the Survey Technician in all aspects of conducting varied survey assignments
  • Participate in all aspects of Survey Assistant I duties
  • Check the calculations of the Instrumentman
  • Operate all survey instruments
  • Assume charge of a survey crew in the absence of the Instrumentman

Requirements:

  • Completion of the 12th grade
  • Experience and/or courses in survey, geomatics, construction or another related field is highly preferable
  • A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence
  • Working knowledge of the methods, techniques, calculations and equipment used in Municipal survey work
  • Working knowledge of engineering mathematics, construction methods and engineering practices
  • Ability to work outdoors in physically demanding conditions and in all forms of inclement weather
  • Ability to rapidly perform mathematical calculations and computations
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and reports
  • Ability to prepare technical survey documents (cut sheets, base plans, etc.)
  • Ability to operate survey instruments and related equipment as required
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff
  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in relating to members of the public
