Requirements

Three (3) years of occupational (i.e. practical) experience in the subject field in which they teach
Within the last five years, at least three years of operating room experience or teaching in the field, or a combination of the two before hire date
At least an associate degree with the appropriate coursework in the subject required
Must be a graduate from a program accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in the specialty field or the subject area in which they teach
Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential

Job Responsibility

Serving as a mentor, role model and facilitator who provides guidance and academic support for students
Demonstrating enthusiasm for teaching, the teaching/learning process, and for individual students
Applying your skills and experience to your assigned teaching schedule
Participating in and contributing to assessment activities of courses/curriculum and programs via a continuous improvement plan set forth by the University
Improving class materials and syllabi within prescribed shared governance culture
Utilizing a variety of teaching methodologies to instruct students, always with intent to facilitate observable evidence of student fulfillment of prescribed learning outcomes
Maintaining scholarly activities
Participating in professional growth and service in accordance with university policies
If working with students in a Clinical setting you will: Assume complete responsibility for students in clinical facilities
Clarify clinical expectations with students

Requirements

Graduate of surgical technologist program OR 2 years of surgical scrub experience
CPR certified
Certified Surgical Technologist certification will be obtained by the employee by sitting for the certification exam within 3 months of employment
Must be willing to work with exposures to body fluids, waste and chemicals, radiation, hazardous materials, anesthesia gases and life threatening diseases
On-call availability (nights, weekends, holidays)
Rotating shifts
Ability to move heavy patients and equipment and to stand for long periods of time
Flexibility to deal with stressful, changing environments
Ability to respond quickly to emergencies
Ability to communicate, cooperate and work well with others

Job Responsibility

Performs duties in the scrub role as assigned
Completely prepares sterile field in a timely manner
maintains the sterile field and boundaries prior to and during procedure
Complies with departmental policy and procedures regarding specimens, counts, and disposition of contaminated instruments
Assists the physician by sponging, suctioning, retracting, and cutting suture as required and instructed by the physician
Acts as preceptor, sharing knowledge in a supportive/educational manner
Maintains on-call availability
Assists in emergency situations as assigned, demonstrating appropriate actions and prioritizing to meet patient's condition
Maintains a safe work environment according to regulatory agency standards
Anticipates the needs of the physician as demonstrated by having all items required readily available on the sterile field

Graduate of a Surgical Technologist Program
Surgical Technologist licensure
CPR certified
Certified Surgical Technologist certification
Ability to work well with internal and external customers
Fine motor skills
Ability to wear a surgical mask and gloves
Auditory skills which allow incumbent to hear individuals whose speech may be muffled
Ability to work under stressful conditions and in difficult situations
Ability to work rotating shifts and day of the week including holidays and take call as needed

Job Responsibility

Functions in the scrub role on surgical procedures as a member of the surgical team
Ensures that the appropriate instruments and supplies are available as determined by the individual surgeon electronic preference card
Assists the surgeon and other team members in gowning and gloving and the draping of the surgical field
Anticipates the needs of the surgeon as demonstrated by having all items required readily available on the sterile field
Ensures the safety needs of the patient is maintained
Utilizes appropriate PPE always at the surgical field
Handles equipment and, sharps and hazardous material and instrumentation in a safe manner which ensures a safe environment
Labels all medication & solutions placed on the surgical field
Participates in the surgical “Time out” and does not allow the procedure to continue to all team members agree
Preparation and maintenance of the sterile field
