Minimum of two (2) years of surgical experience
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) OR Technologist in Surgery-Certified (TS-C)
Basic Life Support (AHA BLS-CPR)

Job Responsibility

Assists in patient care and preparation of surgical patients
Performs scrub duties and related procedures in accordance with their license
Accountable for ensuring maintenance of sterile field and supplies / equipment for selected specialty
Performs in the advanced roles of preceptor, service specialist and understands sterile technique for instruments and surgical situations
Assists surgical team in the scrubbing role according to prescribed standards and licensure
Maintains sterile field. Reports immediately any breaks in aseptic technique
Passes instruments, suture products, medication, and sponge materials to surgeon
Assists with retracting of tissue and organs, and suctioning by holding the retracting instrument which has been placed by the surgeon
Electrosurgical current may be applied as directed by the surgeon, to an established instrument placed by the surgeon
Performs surgical counts with the RN according to policy and procedure

Requirements

Minimum of two years experience with surgical instrumentation required
Minimum two years prior sterile processing or surgical tech experience required
Completion of a Sterile Processing Program or surgical tech program required
High School Graduate or equivalent required
Certified and Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Surgical Technologist Certification (CST), thru HSPA (formerly IAHCSMM) is required
Current AHA BLS card required
Fire Card (within 90 days of hire) required
Knowledge of specialty instruments and thorough knowledge of disinfecting and sterilization procedures required

Job Responsibility

Thoroughly clean, decontaminate, inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize medical devices according to established procedures and manufacturer's instructions
Operate and maintain cleaning and sterilization equipment, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to safety protocols
Perform biological testing, monitor autoclave performance, and identify instruments needing repair or sharpening
Maintain supply levels, fill surgical case cart requisitions using our hospital computer system, and report any equipment malfunctions
Collaborate effectively with colleagues, physicians, and supervisory staff
Act as a preceptor and mentor to new team members, sharing your expertise and contributing to their development
Demonstrate a strong understanding of sterilization principles, infection control practices, and universal safety precautions
