Job Description

Help prepare the operating room and surgical team so they can successfully perform a variety of surgical procedures for patients. Adapt quickly, collaborate effectively within the OR team, and contribute directly to the patient's healing process.

Job Responsibility

  • Set up surgical equipment and instruments
  • Assist the surgical team
  • Ensure a sterile environment
  • Demonstrate intermediate or advanced skills in operating room technology and proficient knowledge of surgical procedures
  • Consistently demonstrate the principles of aseptic technique
  • Handle blood and tissue specimens accurately and in a timely manner
  • Consistently demonstrate proper care and handling of instruments and equipment
  • Facilitate movement of surgery schedule through timely room turnover, communicating with appropriate persons for case progress and delays

Requirements

  • Completion of a Surgical Technologist Training course
  • 1-3 years Less than two (2) years recent hospital experience in the capacity of a Surgical Technologist and certification as a Surgical Technologist
  • Certified Surgical Technologist
  • Technologist in Surgery-Certified
  • Basic Life Support - CPR

  • Maintains adequacy of clinical equipment and medical supply levels needed for patient care and patient safety, which may require reordering, stocking, and cleaning. Conducts inventory of supplies, rotates inventory, monitors expiration dates, requisitions needed supplies from internal and external vendors, reconciles orders with delivery, and tracks utilization for cost trending purposes. Makes recommendations regarding opportunities to decrease cost in use of equipment and supplies. Interacts and solves problems with purchasing department when products are on back order
  • Implements standard infection prevention measures, such as proper hand hygiene and contact/isolation precautions, according to established protocols. Monitors infection prevention practices for breaches and suggests/initiates corrections
