Job Description

As our Surgical Specialty RN, you will provide expert, patient-centered nursing care throughout the perioperative continuum, ensuring optimal outcomes and safety for patients undergoing surgical procedures. Your specialized clinical skills and critical thinking are essential in preparing patients, assisting surgeons, and facilitating a sterile, efficient surgical environment.Every day you will meticulously assess patients pre-operatively, develop care plans, circulate or scrub during procedures, and provide comprehensive post-operative care, expertly managing medications and monitoring vitals. You'll educate patients, ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, and collaborate inter-disciplinarily while meticulously documenting and advocating for patient well-being.To be successful in this role, you must possess exceptional clinical assessment skills, strong critical thinking for high-pressure situations, and excellent communication for team collaboration and patient education. A profound commitment to patient safety, sterile technique, and advancing perioperative nursing, along with self-motivation and adaptability, are essential in this dynamic role.

Job Responsibility

  • Provide expert, patient-centered nursing care throughout the perioperative continuum, ensuring optimal outcomes and safety for patients undergoing surgical procedures
  • Meticulously assess patients pre-operatively, develop care plans, circulate or scrub during procedures, and provide comprehensive post-operative care, expertly managing medications and monitoring vitals
  • Educate patients, ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, and collaborate inter-disciplinarily while meticulously documenting and advocating for patient well-being
  • Consistently delivers exceptional service by proactively greeting patients, maintaining eye contact, actively listening with a positive and empathetic demeanor
  • Executes all duties with precision, adhering to Dignity Health standards for comprehensive patient assessment, accurate documentation, efficient scheduling, safe medication administration, vigilant patient monitoring, and proactive engagement in quality improvement and supply management
  • Proactively enhances efficiency, collaborates effectively, seeks timely guidance, maintains situational awareness
  • Actively participates in team and department initiatives, streamlines processes to maximize efficiency, maintains clean and professional environments
  • Maximizes resource utilization through diligent equipment maintenance, lean supply management, efficient time use, policy adherence, and meticulous handling of billing data

Requirements

  • Satisfactory completion of a formal Registered Nurse program pursuant to the Division of Allied Health Professions or military training that is equivalent to an accredited Registered Nurse program (determination by Dignity Health Medical Foundation H.R. department in conjunction with the State Division of Allied Health Professions.)
  • Current and valid Registered Nurse: CA license (RN:CA)
  • Basic Life Support - CPR (BLS-CPR) certification from the American Heart Association
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills are essential
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, familiarity with CPT and ICD-9 coding procedures and reference tools, and pharmacology appropriate to the Registered Nurse scope of practice is essential

Nice to have

  • One (1) year experience in an outpatient or inpatient setting as a Registered Nurse
  • Experience in Cardiovascular Nursing strongly and coordination of surgeries
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association
  • Familiarity with an electronic practice management system
