Job Description:

Fixed term, parental leave position until April 2027. Part time 0.6 EFT. The Surgical Liaison Nurse (SLN) is part of the Planned Surgery and Endoscopy Access Team within the Division of Surgery, Anaesthesia and Procedural Medicine (SAPM). The SAPM Division is responsible for over 50,000 planned surgical procedures per year being delivered to the community serviced by Austin Health.

Job Responsibility:

  • Provide efficient, streamlined and effective patient journey preadmission processes for planned surgery patients
  • Work closely with relevant staff including the planned surgery booking team, surgical units, unit managers, patient access and flow, bed management, outpatients, theatre & anaesthetics and other liaison nurses across Austin Health
  • Ensure the educational needs of the patient and their carer/family are met through a variety of mediums
  • Management and coordination of patients on the Planned Surgery Preparation List

Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) without restrictions
  • Substantial knowledge and expertise of the role and function of the Surgical Liaison Nurse (SLN)
  • Strong clinical assessment skills and demonstrated leadership ability
  • A patient-centred approach to evidence-based care delivery
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable problem-solving in a variety of complex situations
  • Comfortable working both autonomously as part of a dynamic team
