As a Surgical First Assistant, you will provide critical patient care by directly assisting the surgeon during operative procedures, working under their immediate direction. You will instrumental in ensuring a safe surgical experience through technical support for exposure, hemostasis, and wound closure. Every day you will collaborate closely with the surgical team, performing duties under the guidance of the operating surgeon, circulating nurse, and reporting to your designated Team Leader. This involves a range of assigned tasks to support the surgical process effectively. To be successful, you will demonstrate exceptional technical proficiency in assisting the surgeon, maintaining acute awareness of the surgical field and patient safety.
Job Responsibility:
Assist the surgeon during operative procedures under their immediate direction
Provide technical support for exposure, hemostasis, and wound closure
Collaborate closely with the surgical team
Perform duties under the guidance of the operating surgeon, circulating nurse, and Team Leader
Assist with positioning the patient
Provide application of surgical antiseptic solution and draping the patient
Under physician supervision, may open and close surgical sites, harvest grafts, assist with hemostasis, dissect and remove tissue, insert devices, alter tissue
Provide assistance in securing drainage systems to tissue and applying appropriate wound dressing
Under professional supervision, may apply and remove splints/casts, place foley catheters, and administer local anesthesia
Requirements:
Graduate from an accredited surgical technology program
One year of surgical technician experience
Basic Life Support - CPR
Certified Surgical First Assistant NASC or Certified Surgical First Assistant or Certified First Assistant - Certified Surgical Technologists
Nice to have:
One year Surgical Assisting experience
