We are seeking a calm, patient, and dedicated Support Mentor to work with students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across schools in Hailsham. This role functions similarly to a SEND Teaching Assistant, providing academic, emotional, and behavioural support to ensure pupils remain engaged, confident, and able to learn. You will play a key role in helping pupils feel safe, understood, and supported throughout the school day, working closely with teachers and other staff to promote positive outcomes for each child.
Job Responsibility:
Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEMH, ASD, ADHD, and other SEND needs
Offer calm and supportive guidance to help pupils manage their emotions and behaviour
Promote self-regulation, resilience, and confidence through positive mentoring
Support teachers in creating an inclusive and structured learning environment
Build trusting relationships with pupils to encourage consistent engagement
Record observations and contribute to individual support plans
Assist with classroom routines, learning tasks, and tailored activities
Work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external professionals to ensure cohesive support
Requirements:
Experience working with children or young people, ideally within SEND or pastoral support
Strong communication skills, patience, and emotional resilience
Ability to remain calm and supportive when faced with challenging situations
A flexible, proactive approach suitable for a cover-based role
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (preferred)
Knowledge of SEND strategies, emotional regulation, or restorative approaches (preferred)
Experience within mainstream or specialist educational settings (preferred)
