We are seeking dedicated, resilient, and compassionate Support Mentors to work within an Alternative Provision setting supporting secondary-aged students. This rewarding role involves working with young people who may face barriers to education, helping them develop confidence, resilience, and positive behaviours that enable them to succeed both academically and personally.
Job Responsibility
Provide one-to-one and small group mentoring to secondary-aged students
Build positive and trusting relationships with young people
Support students with social, emotional, and behavioural needs
Encourage engagement in learning and educational activities
Promote positive behaviour and help students develop coping strategies
Support students in achieving personal and educational goals
Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, parents, and external agencies
Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records
Provide guidance, encouragement, and emotional support throughout the school day
Act as a positive role model and advocate for students
Requirements
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to build rapport with young people from diverse backgrounds
Strong behaviour management and conflict-resolution skills
Patience, resilience, and emotional intelligence
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Good organisational and record-keeping skills
Adaptability and a proactive approach to problem-solving
Understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles
