We are seeking a motivated, patient, and supportive Support Assistant to work with students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across schools in Bexhill. The role focuses on supporting learning, promoting positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing, and increasing pupil engagement. You will play an important role in helping pupils stay focused, feel supported, and develop the skills they need to succeed both academically and socially. You will work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to ensure pupils feel safe, motivated, and fully able to engage with their education.
Job Responsibility:
Support pupils with SEMH, ASD, ADHD, and other SEND needs through 1:1 and small-group support
Encourage positive participation in lessons and school activities
Use calm, supportive approaches to help pupils regulate emotions and behaviour
Identify barriers to engagement and collaborate with staff to develop effective strategies
Build strong, positive relationships with pupils to boost confidence and motivation
Assist teachers in maintaining an inclusive, structured, and supportive learning environment
Record observations, engagement levels, and contribute to pupil support plans
Support classroom routines, personalised tasks, and learning activities
Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams, parents, and external professionals
Requirements:
Experience working with children or young people, ideally within SEND, pastoral support, or behaviour-based roles
Strong communication skills, patience, and emotional resilience
Ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations
A flexible, proactive approach suitable for a cover-based role
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service preferred
Understanding of SEND strategies, emotional regulation, and engagement-support approaches
Experience within mainstream or specialist educational settings
