Job Description

We are working with a thriving and established client who is need of a Supply Chain/Material Planner to support manufacturing operations in Memphis, Tennessee by ensuring raw materials and packaging components are available when needed to keep production on track. This role focuses on balancing supply continuity, inventory efficiency, and vendor coordination in a fast-paced plant environment. The ideal candidate brings strong planning experience, sound analytical judgment, and the ability to work across operations, warehousing, purchasing, and suppliers to resolve issues quickly and effectively.

Job Responsibility

  • Develop material plans that align with production demand and help maintain the right supply levels for raw and packaging materials
  • Coordinate with suppliers to communicate forecasted needs, confirm deliveries, and address shortages, delays, or quality concerns before they affect operations
  • Monitor inventory performance and adjust planning decisions to improve stock turns, reduce excess materials, and limit the risk of obsolete inventory
  • Create, update, and maintain purchase orders, planning settings, and item master data needed to support inbound material flow
  • Partner with production scheduling, warehouse, packaging, and accounting teams to resolve schedule changes, usage variances, and inventory discrepancies
  • Oversee the movement of materials from storage locations to the plant to ensure timely availability for manufacturing activities
  • Support the introduction of new materials and product changes by coordinating bill of material updates and planning requirements for existing and new items
  • Evaluate supplier performance through service, cost, and reliability metrics, and collaborate on corrective actions or improvement opportunities
  • Prepare reports, cost analyses, and planning metrics that support purchasing decisions and operational performance reviews
  • Participate in cross-functional initiatives such as new product launches, reformulations, and product discontinuations from a materials planning perspective

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in materials planning, supply chain analysis, inventory control, purchasing, or a closely related function within manufacturing
  • Working knowledge of supply chain planning, production support, forecasting, and inventory management principles
  • Experience using SAP or a comparable ERP system for scheduling, purchasing, inventory management, and master data maintenance
  • Strong Excel skills, including formulas, data analysis, and KPI reporting for planning and inventory performance
  • Ability to work effectively with suppliers, freight partners, warehouse teams, and internal stakeholders across multiple functions
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to manage changing priorities in a production environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, logistics, supply chain, inventory management, or a related field preferred
  • equivalent practical experience will also be considered
