Xometry is a leading on-demand manufacturing marketplace that's transforming how companies source and produce parts. We're looking for a highly motivated and experienced Supplier Development Engineer responsible for production partner development to join our team. In this role, you'll be the bridge between our internal Technical sales & Sourcing teams and our external supplier network, focusing on, pro-active network supplier for large & production deals, optimizing supplier performance, managing risk, and ensuring our partners are prepared for complex, high-stakes projects.
Job Responsibility:
Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with our diverse network of manufacturing partners to increase their engagement and capacity
Engage with new supplier partners onboarded for the purpose of serving production programs, and facilitate partner success in simultaneously navigating the Xometry platform and serving the customer needs
Coach partners on industry best practices related to documentation, finishing processes, and quality assurance
Support partner readiness for complex and highly regulated programs, including those in the aerospace, defense, and medical industries
Work closely with internal teams, including sourcing, engineering, and project management, to ensure our partners' capabilities align with the Statement of Work (SOW) requirements for each project
Support Technical Account Managers (TAMs) and Project Managers (PMs) by assessing new partner capabilities and fit for new bids and proposals
Flag potential risks early, such as capacity constraints, financial weaknesses, or geopolitical exposures, to inform strategic decision-making
Assist in root-cause analysis of late shipments (e.g., finishing delays, raw material shortages, inspection bottlenecks) and help partners implement sustainable mitigation plans
Support the qualification of finishing suppliers (e.g., plating, anodizing, chemical conversion, coatings, paint/prime) to meet stringent aerospace, defense, and automotive standards
Assist partners in pursuing and maintaining special process qualifications such as NADCAP, AMS, VAPS, PPS, and TS16949
Oversee the verification and validation of controlled processes, including heat treatment, plating, and coatings
Help identify and address compliance requirements from frameworks like DoD, FAA, TCCA, DFARS, and ITAR, ensuring our partners meet all necessary regulations.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related technical field
A minimum of [e.g., 3-5] years of experience in supplier development, supplier quality, or a similar role within a manufacturing or technical environment within manufacturing, supply chain, or a related technical field
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and quality standards
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build and maintain relationships
Problem-solving mindset and a talent for mediating complex situations
Knowledge of special processes and industry certifications (NADCAP, AS9100, etc.) is a significant plus
Familiarity with compliance frameworks (ITAR, DFARS) and their implications for manufacturing
Strong understanding of quality management systems and methodologies (e.g., APQP, PPAP, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma)
Willingness to travel to supplier locations as required.
Nice to have:
Knowledge of special processes and industry certifications (NADCAP, AS9100, etc.) is a significant plus
Familiarity with compliance frameworks (ITAR, DFARS) and their implications for manufacturing.
