Job Responsibility:
Oversees and directs the Surgical Support Operations Technician (SSOT) Team members
Oversees the training, performance evaluations, daily assignments, and work schedules of team members
Communicates with charge and staff nursing regarding ongoing case scheduling and needs changes
Ensures all necessary equipment for surgical procedures is provided, in working order, and ready to use, and offers technical support to all staff and clinicians during surgical procedures as needed
Oversees the execution of the daily operating room schedule from the perspective of needed equipment
Directs SSOT team in support of cases as required
Manages vacations, daily schedules, PTO, bereavement, and call-ins
Manages SSOT team members' assignments based on individual expertise levels and offers technical backup as needed
Monitors ongoing changes in the daily schedule and communicates equipment and staffing changes with SSOT team members
Offers assistance to the Charge Nurse in executing changes in the schedule
Manages and monitors newer team members’ skills building, offers precepting where needed, and provides feedback to improve team members’ learning opportunities
Tracks team members’ progress on skills improvements
Leads maintenance of perioperative lead inventory to ensure cleanliness and integrity following NYS and DOH standards
Builds and maintains good working relationships with Nursing staff and Attending Surgeons to better understand and serve their needs in patient care
Works closely with Clinical Engineering to ensure all equipment utilized in the OR is in proper working order, has current inspections, and is removed from service for repair when warranted
Communicates with third-party vendors to coordinate equipment maintenance and repair, as well as coordinating rental equipment
Coordinates equipment loaned to affiliate locations and ensures proper delivery and return
Builds and develops the service line and manages long-term goal expansion and service development
Develops and executes goals regarding strategic initiatives
Supports the Hospital goals, including patient safety, OR access, reduced delays, and prevention of patient harm
Participates in project planning meetings to coordinate construction, IT integration, installations, and implementation of medical equipment
Responds to device incident/event reports to address equipment malfunctions
Corrects identified operator errors
Maintains the Medical Asset log in conjunction with perioperative Leadership
Orders and maintains medical gases
Coordinates equipment replacement and offers expertise to finance personnel regarding replacing older, outdated equipment as units approach the end of service life
Assists in obtaining quotes from vendors for equipment replacements
Acts as the department laser safety officer to maintain compliance with UR safety policies
Oversees training of staff in becoming laser certified on individual laser systems

Requirements:
Associate's degree in Surgical Technology or other related field and 3 years of SSOT or Surgical Technologist experience required
Bachelor's degree in related field preferred
Or equivalent combination of education and experience
Supervisory experience preferred
Excel, Word, Outlook preferred
Certification in Surgical Technology upon hire preferred
