About Lihir Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Your Impact As a Supervisor Metallurgy, you will play a critical leadership role in optimising metallurgical performance while fostering a strong safety culture. You will supervise metallurgical processes and lead a team to maximise recovery, drive operational excellence, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Your impact will extend across the operation as you contribute to improving plant performance, reducing costs, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives within a complex and dynamic processing environment. As part of our team, you will Lead and influence proactive safety behaviours through visible felt leadership, Critical Control Verifications (CCVs), and a strong commitment to safe work practices. Ensure all incidents are thoroughly investigated, with timely implementation of actions to minimise recurrence and strengthen risk management. Supervise, coach and develop a team of metallurgists, setting clear accountabilities aligned to SMART objectives and providing ongoing performance feedback and development support. Foster a positive, safe and high-performing team environment through recognition, mentoring, and continuous capability development. Drive operational performance by optimising metallurgical processes, monitoring real-time plant performance, and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams. Support delivery of daily, weekly, and monthly operational targets through structured planning routines and departmental priorities. Manage metallurgical processes in line with operational and safety standards, including oversight of the Cyanide Management Plan and compliance with relevant codes. Partner with processing, health, safety and environment, emergency response team, supply, and technical teams to ensure consistent compliance and performance outcomes. Investigate production losses and critical process events through effective root cause analysis, ensuring appropriate escalation and implementation of corrective actions Maintain and continuously improve metallurgical systems, standards, procedures, and operating practices. Collaborate with SAOC and key stakeholders to set targets and maximise real-time process performance and recovery outcomes. Ensure metallurgical accounting and reporting (daily and end-of-month) are accurate, timely, and aligned with company standards. Maintain strong oversight of contractor activities, consumables, and reagent usage to maximise value and control cost. Proactively identify and implement cost reduction and efficiency improvement opportunities. Prerequisites for your success in this role To succeed in this role, you will bring a strong blend of technical expertise, leadership capability, and interpersonal effectiveness: A tertiary qualification in Mineral Processing, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline. Current PNG Class 6 Driver’s Licence (valid and current) Proven experience in metallurgical operations, including process optimisation and plant performance improvement. Demonstrated leadership capability, with the ability to supervise, coach, and develop high-performing teams. Strong problem-solving capability, including root cause analysis, data-driven decision making, and a solid data analysis background. Familiarity with metallurgical accounting systems and short-term interval control systems or similar operational frameworks. Sound knowledge of processing systems and operational standards, including a practical understanding of plant environments. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across maintenance, processing, site asset operation centre, geology, mining, and broader operational teams. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage conflict, influence outcomes, and build trusted working relationships. A proactive and solutions-focused mindset, with the ability to work collaboratively to resolve complex operational challenges. High levels of integrity, professionalism, and accountability, with a consistent approach to delivering results. Strong organisational skills, reliability, and punctuality, ensuring commitments and priorities are consistently met. A demonstrated commitment to safety, continuous improvement, and operational excellence. Your work environment You will be based at Lihir Operations, working within a collaborative and technically advanced environment. You will partner closely with teams across processing, mining, maintenance, laboratory, and operations, contributing to a highly integrated and performance-driven culture. Working Conditions This role is offered on a 21:21 (day shift), Fly in, Fly out (FIFO) roster to Lihir Island, Papua New Guinea. Our FIFO employees stay in a secure and comfortable camp, in an en-suited and airconditioned room equipped with mini fridge, TV and Wi-Fi. A variety of healthy meal options are catered for at our mess; and the wet mess provides a relaxed social setting where employees can unwind with a game of pool or darts.
