Newmont Suriname was established in 2004 as an entity of Newmont Mining Corporation and is headquartered in Paramaribo, Suriname. Located in South America, Suriname was originally settled as a Dutch colony, is very culturally diverse and enjoys a tropical climate. The Merian Project is located approximately 60 km south of Moengo in a largely undeveloped part of the country with the nearest permanent settlement, Langa Tabiki, approximately 17 km east from the Project site. Strong support from host communities and the government of Suriname strengthen Merian's ability to deliver safe, profitable production with significant upside potential and opportunity for employees, host communities and shareholders.

Job Responsibility:

  • Supervise metallurgical processes and people to maximize recovery and ensure compliance with safety standards
  • Execute and maintain records of somewhat complex metallurgical tasks, tests on samples
  • Develop scope of work for test processes while following standard and approved procedures
  • Review and understand metallurgical information, technical data, Material Safety Data Sheets, labels on products, warning signs, and numbers on monitors and gauges to prevent loss of personnel, property, and process
  • Ensure QA/QC of test work results are according to standards
  • Compile the reports for test work completed and escalate any deviations as required
  • Responsible for assessing relevant risks, executing mitigation measures, and continuously monitoring for risks

Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Extractive Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, Chemical Engineering or similar relevant qualification
  • Mineral processing working experience (preferably gold)
  • Exposure to databases and experience with PI operating data management software would be highly regarded
  • Moderately skilled in Microsoft Excel/Word/Powerpoint/Projects
  • Must possess a systematic approach to problems solving and decision making
  • Demonstrated commitment to ensuring a safe working environment
