Job Description

As the Supervisor, Laboratory, you will play an important leadership role supporting safe, reliable laboratory operations that contribute to the success of the Lihir operation. You will guide and support a team of laboratory technicians, building capability, strengthening skills, and ensuring work is completed safely and accurately. Your leadership will help create a respectful and inclusive team culture while driving continuous improvement and delivering results that support the wider site community.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead daily laboratory activities to ensure accurate results and smooth workflow
  • Promote a strong safety-first culture and adherence to site procedures
  • Support, coach, and develop local talent through mentoring and training
  • Plan and coordinate team rosters, tasks, and workload
  • Monitor laboratory equipment and address issues quickly
  • Communicate clearly on performance, priorities, and results
  • Manage laboratory resources including consumables and PPE
  • Work closely with other departments across site
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry
  • Proven experience in a mining or processing laboratory environment
  • Demonstrated leadership capability
  • Ability to interpret complex laboratory and operational data
  • Strong hands-on capability to diagnose and resolve technical and quality issues
  • Demonstrated ability to identify inefficiencies and implement practical solutions
  • Deep understanding of assay laboratory workflows
  • Strong capability in KPI reporting
  • Strong working knowledge of Quality Management Systems as it relates to ISO 17025
  • Practical experience operating and maintaining laboratory instrumentation such as AAS, Leco analyzers, fusion and cupellation furnaces, and UV-Vis spectrometers
  • Proficiency in interpreting analytical results and applying Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods
  • Proven ability to lead teams and manage performance
  • Experience using LIMS, SAP, and Microsoft Office
