The Supervisor, Histology oversees the daily operations of the Histology laboratory to meet production and quality requirements while maintaining compliance with laboratory best practices and company policies. This position serves as a liaison between laboratory staff and cross-functional teams to ensure samples are processed and delivered on time, with accuracy and consistency. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where collaboration and precision are critical.
Job Responsibility:
Supervise day-to-day operations of the Histology lab, ensuring timely, high-quality specimen processing and delivery
Resolve technical and workflow issues in accordance with established laboratory procedures and standards
Oversee test performance, monitoring quality control, and ensuring corrective actions are implemented when deviations occur
Provide orientation, training, and competency assessments for staff, supporting professional growth and technical proficiency
Partner with cross-functional teams including Pathology, Accessioning, Analytical Laboratory, and IT to maintain process efficiency
Collaborate with management to plan and implement laboratory enhancements, quality initiatives, and new test procedures
Prepare and review documentation including SOPs, reports, and performance assessments
Promote a positive and inclusive work environment through team coaching, performance feedback, and staff engagement
Ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA, and other regulatory standards while upholding safety and quality principles
Participate in laboratory improvement and project initiatives as assigned
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field and 6+ years of histology laboratory experience
Comprehensive understanding of CAP, CLIA, and NY regulatory requirements
Experience managing high-volume histology or pathology laboratory operations
Proficiency with LIMS systems, Microsoft Office, and laboratory automation tools
Proven ability to supervise and mentor laboratory staff (1+ years of experience) while driving operational excellence
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical audiences
Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship
Nice to have:
HT(ASCP) or HLT(ASCP) certification
QIHC certification preferred
Experience in project management or leading process improvement initiatives
Background in clinical or surgical pathology laboratories
