Job Description

The HIM Supervisor oversees the daily operations of Health Information Management functions, primarily Data Integrity, Document Imaging, and Chart Completion. This role supervises Data Integrity Analysts and Record Documentation Specialists, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in scanning, indexing, and record management workflows. The Supervisor manages the EPIC Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI) by monitoring dashboards and work queues, identifying identity events, resolving duplicates, and performing patient merges, while also maintaining referring provider data within the EPIC SER table. In addition to operational oversight, the HIM Supervisor monitors chart completion activities and produces statistical reports to identify trends related to patient identity, duplicate records, and documentation errors. Serving as a subject matter expert, the Supervisor provides guidance to medical staff and leadership on the Data Management System (DMS), complex chart corrections, and data integrity practices. The role also includes responding to chart correction requests, patient safety alerts, and IT tickets, ensuring timely and accurate updates within EMPI and SER tables, document corrections, and audit trail reporting. The HIM Supervisor supports organizational compliance and data governance by overseeing Care Everywhere queries, leading data integrity and chart completion initiatives, and collaborating with Privacy on HIPAA amendments, redactions, and breach reporting. This position is also responsible for onboarding, training, and mentoring staff while fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree (required)
  • RHIT - Registered Health Information Technician - AHIMA - American Health Information Management Association (required)
  • RHIA - Registered Health Information Administrator - AHIMA - American Health Information Management Association (required)
  • Minimum two (2) years Related work experience or other leadership experience (preferred)
  • Critical thinking skills are a requirement of this position
  • Ability to read and understand the clinical chart is required
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office including the ability to format Excel spreadsheets preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication and customer service skills including the ability to communicate effectively across a wide range of audiences
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask, keeping complex processes on track for multiple chart corrections at one time
  • Demonstrated effective use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook applications
