Job Description:

As the Supervisor, Canadian Payroll, you’re responsible for overseeing the end-to-end payroll operations for Canadian employees, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, compliance with federal and provincial regulations, and continuous improvement of payroll processes.

Job Responsibility:

  • Oversee and coordinate all aspects of Canadian payroll processing, including salary, hourly, unionized, and non-unionized groups
  • Review and approve payroll runs, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements
  • Serve as the main point of contact for complex payroll inquiries and escalations
  • Lead post-payroll activities, including reconciliations, adjustments, and error corrections
  • Ensure compliance with all federal and provincial payroll legislation, collective agreements, and internal controls
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll laws, regulations, and best practices
  • Design and monitor internal controls to mitigate risks and conduct periodic audits to assess effectiveness
  • Identify and implement opportunities for process improvements and automation in payroll operations
  • Participate in the implementation and enhancement of payroll systems (e.g., SAP, UKG)
  • Develop and maintain payroll process documentation, SOPs, and training materials
  • Prepare and review payroll reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Oversee year-end activities, including T4 and benefits reconciliations
  • Support internal and external audits by providing required payroll information and documentation

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
  • PCP or CPM certification (NPI) or working towards these certifications
  • Proven track records of exceptional delivery in high volume, complex payroll environment
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive payroll experience, including leadership, SME or supervisory roles
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, collective agreements, and best practices
  • Experience with payroll systems (e.g., SAP, UKG) and advanced Excel skills
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a team in a fast-paced environment
  • High attention to detail, confidentiality, and organizational skills
  • Experience with process mapping and business process improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to manage confidential information with discretion
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
